Hippopotamus

Description: Hippopotamus in Stanley Field Hall, for Carl E. Akeley Memorial Hall (22). The skin of the hippopotomus cannot be preserved satisfactorily by ordinary methods. In this specimen, the animal has been reproduced in cellulose-acetate, a material resembling celluloid. The process is one developed by L. L. Walters of the Museum's staff. [postcard caption]
