Description: scan of catalog card [FRONT] [MAIN BODY] Chicago Natural History Museum - Ethnology | 22-31 | Provenience: Benin, Nigeria | People or Culture: Bini | Object: Shield | Material: Wood | Description: Shield of plaited strips of wood, rectangular in shape but with rounded corners reinforced down the central ridge with sticks kept in place by strips inserted under the vertically plaited elements. The edges are reinforced with close stitches of some sort of split cane. The top of the shield is marked by a protrusion of the central ridge.
