Description: American Tapir, Tapirus terrestris, Hall 16 diorama. 3 animals, two adults and one partially grown young represented at midday under the shade of a tree at the edge of a grassy swamp. Painted scene of southwestern Brazil, open marsh and scattered clumps of small trees with a slender palm. In the tree above them, partly concealed by foliage, is a large blue macaw bird. Specimens obtained by Colin C. Sanborn August 21, 1927. Taxidermy by Julius Friesser, background by Charles A. Corwin.
